Juliet Theresita is the Director of Centre for Community Services (CCS). Her involvement has proven instrumental in organizing coastal committees and helping them enroll with the Tamil Nadu Manual Workers Welfare Board in order to access a number of benefits, including pensions. Ms. Theresita has organized seminars on coastal and environmental rights, raising awareness about environmentally destructive activities such as industrial aquaculture, canal projects and nuclear power plants. Juliet is currently involved in orchestrating workshops to raise awareness of, and advocate for, women’s, children’s and worker’s rights.

About the Centre for Community Services

CCS advocates for and serves marginalized and vulnerable fishing communities along the Gulf of Mannar, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. CCS provides holistic, highly-integrated programs and services to fisher-folk and their communities, with special emphasis on the rights of women. CCS’s approach to development combines ecologically sound management and restoration with cooperative socio-economic endeavors, networking opportunities, education, legal reform, political advocacy, and organization. CCS fights against industrialization, degradation and inequality; and fights for healthy ecological, social and economic systems.
