Organization

The NGO Center for Health Promotion and Family Assistance (CEPROSAF) is a non profit organization, headquarters are in La Ceiba, Atlántida, created to develop health programs that promote and assist families. CEPROSAF has two clearly defined objectives: first the promotion of family health, which in turn strengthens and improves their quality of life, second, to support interventions that maintain a healthy family environment. CEPROSAF works in both urban and rural areas, with much of their focus on young people and adults who are living with HIV.

Norma's Work

For over a decade, Norma has been active in the fields of children and youth empowerment, and public health, with a focus on HIV/AIDS. As a Project Coordinator at both the Preventive Health for the Adolescents of Honduras, and Project People living with HIV/AIDS, Norma planned and implemented numerous workshops, activities, and evaluations which supported the empowerment and rights of Honduran youth and people affected by HIV/AIDS. Transferring this energy and drive Norma now designs, coordinates, implements, and evaluates CEPROSAF's programming. In addition to her external work, Norma also emphasizes her staff's wellbeing and personal development. Within the organization, she has implemented courses on interpersonal relationships and prioritizes time for the staff to train each other and build sustainable relationships.

"The Fellowship will strengthen my leadership skills and introduce me to new practices that will help generate national alliances to support Honduran youth. The experience will also develop my ability to think critically; improve professional skills in program management and coordination; and discover new strategies for effective communication, community outreach and mobilization."

Norma is a recipient of the Central American Women's Leadership award, a program developed in partnership with the Seattle International Foundation to equip and inspire women's leadership in sustainable social change throughout the region.
