Social Innovation in Seattle FAQ

Can I choose my Site Placement/Internship?

Yes--while we have a number of community partners that we work with, if you have an idea for a place that you   would like to work, please let us know beforehand and we will see if a placement is possible. It may very well be that we already have an existing partnership with them.

Do I need to be a university student to participate in SIIS?

No--the SIIS program is open to anyone over the age of 18.

Is the program only open to Japanese?

No, the program is open to anyone, irrespective of national citizenship. To this point, many Japanese have participated in the program due to the high level of interest in Japan in social innovation.

What if I am a non-US citizen and/or not a resident of the United States?

In order for you to come to the United States you will need to either arrange for your own visa (iLEAP does not sponsor visas for the SIIS program) or come on a Tourist Visa. Citizens from countries designated under the US State Department’s Visa Waiver program do not need to arrange for a visa prior to arriving in the US. Please visit this link to see if your country is on the list.

Are there scholarships or reduced tuition awards available?

Depending on enrollment, there may be some available.
